House painter in Vienna – interior, apartment and refresh painting
In Vienna a good paint job usually starts from the condition of the wall. In Altbau and Gründerzeit apartments, high ceilings, thick walls, old wallpaper or lime-washed surfaces and cracks mean wallpaper removal, skim coating or crack repair is often needed before the finish coat. CityTint works from an itemised written quote — labour and material shown separately — with English-language coordination.

Interior painting in Vienna – what to clarify before asking for a quote
Itemised written quote
For a Vienna apartment or house, the quote is broken into two main lines — labour and material — so you can see at a glance how the total is built up. Paint and skim-coat material is calculated per square metre against the actual wall area, so you do not have to pay for more material than the job needs.
Preparation that starts from the wall
Altbau apartments and older blocks often have lime-washed or multi-layer old paint, old wallpaper and cracks. For a lasting result these need wallpaper removal, skim coating or crack repair first — skip this and a quick overpaint can leave a patchy, soon-peeling surface.
Flexible key handover and coordination
For a rental or a flat being prepared for sale, flexible key handover and return can be arranged in advance, so you do not have to stay on site throughout. Coordination is not phone-only: email, WhatsApp and Viber are available, in English.
What does interior painting cost in Vienna?
The price mainly depends on three things: the size of the surface, the condition of the wall and how many work phases are needed. Refresh painting in a well-kept flat needs less preparation than an Altbau apartment or a cracked, stained wall where wallpaper removal, skim coating or sealing has to come first. The itemised quote shows labour and material on separate lines, and the material is calculated against the actual surface area — so you can see immediately which phase is needed and why. For detailed prices and the calculation logic, see the pricing page.
Our own CityTint projects – refresh painting and a high-ceilinged period flat repainted
The first pair comes from a rental flat in Budapest District VII (Erzsébetváros): the wall soiled under the window was prepared first, then finished with white dispersion paint. The second pair shows a high-ceilinged period building in Budapest District VIII (Józsefváros), where an old yellowed wall and the gallery space were repainted in white. Neither project was carried out in Vienna, but both show what a Viennese Altbau flat or rental usually needs: honest surface preparation before the finish coat, otherwise the fresh paint will not stay even.

Vienna Altbau and Gründerzeit buildings – start from the wall
High ceilings, thick walls, old layers
In Vienna’s Altbau and Gründerzeit buildings, high rooms and large wall areas often come with old wallpaper, lime-washed or multi-layer paint and uneven, cracked plaster. In these cases wallpaper removal, skim coating or crack repair is needed before painting — a rushed overpaint does not remove the defects, it only hides them for a while.
Rental flats and tenant change – refresh painting (Ausmalen)
In Vienna, refresh painting before a tenant change, letting or move-in is a common goal. Here scheduling and flexible key handover matter most — by prior agreement the work can be done without the owner staying on site throughout.
English-language coordination in Vienna
The whole process can be coordinated in English. The itemised written quote shows the work phases up front, so even a remote order stays clear about what is included in the price. Contact by email, WhatsApp and Viber.

Just refresh painting, or deeper preparation too?
In Vienna this is the most common uncertainty: on a tall Altbau wall or a rental flat, old wallpaper, cracks and an uneven surface mean a plain overpaint can quickly come back to bite you. The cost of a wrong decision is a patchy, soon-peeling finish — and a second paint job you did not plan for.
So it is worth clarifying the condition of the walls first. The itemised quote breaks labour and material onto separate lines so you can see what is needed and why. For a rental, the key can be handed over, and the whole process can be coordinated in English.
